At two national caliber meets during the month of April, freshman Margo Britton, the 2012 A-10 Indoor Shot Put Champion, shined on the national stages, propelling her to three Atlantic 10 Rooke of the Week honors and now the Owlsports.com Athlete of the Month.
On April 7 at the Florida Relays, Britton broke the Temple University school record for the furthest mark in the shot put with her distance of 15.07 meters, which earned her second place in the event and surpassed the former record that was held for 30 years (1982) by Sharon Mitnik.
A week later at the George Mason Patriot Spring Invite, she rewrote the Temple record books once again. This time taking part in the discus throw, the York, Pa. native earned the event title with her toss of 156 feet and 10.28 inches to shatter the mark of 151 feet 10 inches set by Ebony Moore back in 2010.
Britton's surge in the month of April still wasn't over, as the next week she claimed first place in the shot put and in the discus throw at Widener, having first place marks of 49 feet 2.5 inches and 149 feet 11 inches, respectively.
With one meet remaining for the regular season, Britton saved her best performance for last. At the 118th Penn Relays, she not only re-broke the shot put record, but pushed the mark to a distance that should stand for a long time. Breaking her own record with a mark of 15.71 meters, Britton claimed second place in the event, making her the runner-up behind NC State's Tremanisha Taylor.
