Joe Giunta Named Director Of Athletics At Cabrini College

June 16, 2008

PHILADELPHIA - Joe Giunta, who has served as an associate director of athletics at Temple University since 2003, has been named Director of Athletics and Recreation at Cabrini College. At the Division III Radnor, PA institution, Giunta will oversee 18 varsity teams, as well as the school's clubs sports and recreation activities and its active community health and fitness center.

"Cabrini College has an extraordinary academic and athletic tradition and I am very excited to become a part of the Cabrini family," Giunta said. "Cabrini's 'Education of the Heart' philosophy is consistent with the type of environment I feel is best for the development of young men and women and their overall collegiate experience. I look forward to working with the college community at Cabrini to maintain, as well as build upon, what those prior to me worked so diligently to create."

"In the same breath I am extremely thankful for the opportunity that I received at Temple University, and the friendship and relationships that I forged in my time there," Giunta said. "Temple is coming off an extremely successful athletics season and is poised for success now and in the future. I was happy to play a role in that, and will continue to be an Owl supporter."

Giunta administered eight Division I intercollegiate athletic programs, including the Owls' bowl subdivision football program and high-profile men's basketball team. Under his tutelage, the Owls became a full-time football-only member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) in 2007 and have steadied as the sixth most-winning men's basketball program all-time, notching 1,689 victories.

At Temple, Giunta's responsibilities include contest scheduling for football, men's basketball, men's soccer, golf, baseball, men's and women's tennis and men's crew; alumni/donor relations, and development of athletic department personnel. He also oversees the University's athletic facilities, athletic training, equipment and the strength and conditioning area. Giunta currently serves on the Atlantic 10 Conference baseball committee, as well.

Giunta is no stranger to Division III athletics, and specifically the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC), formerly the PAC, as an administrator and student-athlete. His resume includes seven years at Neumann College, including a three-year tenure (2000-2003) as director of athletics. With the Knights, Giunta managed all marketing and fund-raising activities, coordinated scheduling and transportation for 15 athletic programs, and maintained the College's web site and five athletic venues.

"Cabrini is getting one of the top young athletic administrators in the country," Temple Director of Athletics Bill Bradshaw said. "Joe was a valued member of our senior athletics staff and will be sorely missed. We wish him nothing but success at Cabrini."

A national search for his successor will commence immediately.
