Temple’s Bernard Pierce Named MAC Offensive Player of the Week

Owls Host Ball State in PINK OUT Game for Breast Cancer Awareness
CLEVELAND – Temple freshman RB Bernard Pierce (Concordville, Pa.) has earned Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors for the East division, the MAC announced on Monday.
For the second straight week, Pierce rushed for more than 100 yards. In Saturday's 24-12 win at Eastern Michigan, he led TU with 180 yards two touchdowns on 25 carries. It marked the first time a Temple player rushed for 100 yards in consecutive games since Tim Brown accomplished the feat in 2006. Pierce's rushing yardage is the most since Walter Washington rushed for 185 yards against Syracuse on Nov. 13, 2004.
With his back-to-back 100-plus rushing games against Buffalo and Eastern Michigan, Pierce became the first Temple freshman to record two games of more than 100 yards rushing since the Owls began Division I-A competition in 1971.
For his efforts, Pierce earned national Honorable Mention Helmet Stickers honors from ESPN.com, national Honorable Mention Performer of the Week accolades from the College Football Performance Award, and OwlSports.com co-Athlete of the Week honors.
After four games, Pierce leads the TU rushers with 364 yards and three TDs on 58 carries. He averages 6.3 yards per carry.
The MAC honor is the first of Pierce's collegiate career and the Owls' third honor this season.
Temple (2-2, 2-0 MAC) returns home to host Ball State (0-5, 0-1 MAC) for the first time in MAC play on Saturday,Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. at Lincoln Financial Field. The game has been designated a “PINK OUT” in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Day. The first 5,000 fans will receive pink pom-pons, sponsored by TD Bank and City View Pizza. A portion of the tickets sales will be donated to the Temple Cancer Center. The Owls' radio broadcast will air on WHAT 1340 AM.
