Zhang and Pierre Earn Atlantic 10 Volleyball Weekly Honors

Duo take two of three awards for the second time this season

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – For the second time this season, Temple volleyball senior Yun Yi Zhang and junior Ariel Pierre swept two of the three Atlantic 10 weekly awards, as Zhang earned the title of A-10 Offensive Player of the Week Pierre was named the A-10 Defensive Player of the Week. The award is Zhang's third of the season, and Pierre's second.

Zhang averaged 6.38 kills per set in leading Temple to a 1-1 week, as the Owls took a 3-1 win at Charlotte and dropped a hard-fought, 3-1 match to #20 Saint Louis. She knocked down 28 kills in the come-from-behind win at Charlotte, also tallying six blocks and four digs. Zhang led all players with 23 kills against Saint Louis, notching a double-double with 12 digs.

The match against the Billikens was the final home match of Zhang's career. She and Jackie Morrison were honored prior to the start as part of Senior Night.

Pierre averaged 6.25 digs per set, putting up impressive defensive numbers in both matches for Temple. She tallied a match and season-high 27 digs in four sets at Charlotte, and recorded a match-high 23 digs vs. Saint Louis, also tallying one ace and two assists. Pierre leads the team this season with 280 digs (3.11 digs per set).

The Owls are gearing up for A-10 Tournament play, and will face George Washington at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20. Temple is the fourth seed of six teams, while GW is the fifth seed. The entire tournament is being held at the University of Dayton, who earned the regular season title for the second straight year.
