THIS WEEK

Temple returns home to Lincoln Financial Field on Thursday, Nov. 5 to face Miami (Ohio) at 7:30 p.m.

The Owls' radio broadcast will air on WHAT 1340 AM with Harry Donahue calling the play-by-play and Steve Joachim providing color analysis. All-MACcess will carry live video streaming of the game. Live gametracker stats and video streaming will be available on the Temple Athletics website at www.OwlSports.com.

The Thursday night contest is Temple's second this fall and the second of four non-Saturday clashes. The Owls will travel to Akron (Nov. 13) and Ohio (Nov. 27) for Friday games.

Under the direction of fourth-year head coach Al Golden, Temple stands 6-2 overall and a perfect 4-0 in MAC play. Last week, the Owls won their sixth consecutive game with a 27-24 victory at Navy. The last time Temple won six games in a row was 1974 under coach Wayne Hardin.

With six wins on the season, Temple is now bowl eligible. The last time the Owls were bowl eligible was 1990 when they finished 7-4. Temple's last bowl appearance came in the 1979 Garden State Bowl where the Owls beat California, 28-17, at Giants Stadium.

The 2009 squad, featuring Golden's first recruiting class as seniors, returns 21 starters to 17 positions. The Owls utilize an East Coast offense and 4-3 defense.

On the ground, freshman RB Bernard Pierce (Ardmore, Pa.) leads the Owls with a freshman record 1,033 yards and 11 touchdowns on 164 carries. R-junior QB Vaughn Charlton (Landenberg, Pa.) has thrown 90-of-177 for 1,200 yards and nine touchdowns. Junior Michael Campbell (Edison, N.J.) is the top receiver with 238 yards and two touchdowns on 18 catches.

Nationally Temple ranks No. 6 in kickoff returns (28.45), No. 22 in total defense (311.13), No. 30 in turnover margin (0.63), No. 31 in sacks (2.50), No. 32 in scoring defense (20.38), No. 33 in rushing defense (113.50). Miami ranks No. 31 in passing offense (255.67) and No. 36 in pass defense (197.00).

Individually, freshman RB Bernard Pierce ranks No. 3 nationally in rushing (129.12), while sophomore WR James Nixon is No. 7 in kickoff returns (33.50).

Head coach Michael Haywood is in his first season at Miami. The RedHawks stand 1-8 on the season and 1-4 in MAC?play after a 31-24 win over Toledo. Miami returns 13 starters to its multiple offense and 4-3 defense.

R-freshman QB Zac Dysert is the RedHawks' leading rusher with 237 yards and three touchdowns on 101 carries. Junior RB Thomas Merriweather follows with 228 yards and two touchdowns on 87 carries. Dysert is 163-of-265 for 1,732 yards and eight touchdowns. R-junior WR Armand Robinson is the top receiver with 625 yards and two touchdowns on 53 receptions.

TEMPLE-MIAMI CONNECTIONS
Temple has no players on its roster from the state of Ohio.

Miami has four players from Pennsylvania, three from the Philadelphia area— r-freshman TE Trevor Behmke (Paoli, Pa. / Conestoga HS), as well as brothers r-sophomore LB C.J. Marck (Newtown, Pa. / Pennsbury HS) and freshman TE Steve Marck (Newtown, Pa. / Pennsbury HS).

TEMPLE-MIAMI— THE SERIES
Thursday's game will mark the fourth meeting between the Owls and the RedHawks. Last year, senior WR Bruce Francis' two fourth-quarter touchdown receptions iced a 28-10 win over host Miami in front of 17,295 fans at Yager Stadium.

While Temple has sponsored football since 1894 and Miami has fielded a team since 1888, the teams have met just once before Temple joined the MAC. On Oct. 29, 2005, Miami claimed a 41-14 win at Lincoln Financial Field. The game was the Owls' final home game of the 2005 campaign and the last under eight-year head coach Bobby Wallace.

In its first game in MAC competition in 2007, Temple evened the series with a 24-17 win under Al Golden before its Homecoming crowd at Lincoln Financial Field. TU withstood a late Miami rally to hang on for its third consecutive victory. The win marked the first time that Temple had won three consecutive conference games since 1967 when Temple competed in the Middle Atlantic Conference. The win also marked the first time the Owls had won three consecutive games in a season since 1990.

The victory, however, came with a huge price tag. Starting QB Adam DiMichele suffered a broken leg early in the second quarter following a sack and missed the rest of the season.
