Zhang Leads Volleyball to Home Win Against La Salle

Owls improve to 7-5 in A-10 play; will travel to Fordham on Sunday

PHILADELPHIA – Yun Yi Zhang knocked down a match-high 21 kills and hit .439 in leading the Temple volleyball team to a 3-1 win vs. La Salle by scores of 25-16, 25-12, 20-25 and 25-14. The win was the Owls' third against La Salle in the 2009 season.
Temple improves to 11-10 overall and 7-5 in Atlantic 10 play, while La Salle drops to 3-28 overall and 0-13 in the conference.
The Owls' Jackie Morrison recorded a double-double, her 12th of the season, with 36 assists and a team-high 14 digs. Cayleigh Ashman recorded 11 kills for Temple, while Jess Antosz tallied nine kills and a team-high hitting percentage of .500.
The teams traded points early in the first set which saw nine ties, the last coming at 10-10 before Temple used a 10-1 run to pull out of reach. In the second set the Owls trailed 2-0 before taking over, out-hitting the Explorers .357 to -.086.
La Salle led all the way through the third set, drastically improving its hitting with 13 kills and only three errors to prevent the sweep by Temple.
The Owls picked up the pace early in the fourth set, and Zhang recorded nine kills to lead Temple to victory.
With three regular season matches remaining, the race is tight for the fourth, fifth and sixth spots in the A-10 Tournament. The Owls will travel to Fordham for a 2:00 p.m. match on Sunday, Nov. 8, looking to further solidify their place in the standings.
