Title game loss ends the Owls' season
Box Score
AMHERST, Mass – Appearing in the Atlantic 10 championship game for the first time in six years, the Temple field hockey team was unable to repeat its performance against Richmond from a week ago as the Owls (9-12, 4-2 A-10) dropped a 3-0 decision to the Spiders (13-8, 5-1 A-10) Saturday afternoon at UMass.
Riding a four-game win streak into the championship game, the Owls were unable to defeat the Spiders for the second time in the week.
A-10 scoring leader Sarah Blythe-Wood would provide the first goal for Richmond 23:47 into the first half when she scored off of a corner. Five minutes later Katelin Peterson added another on a two-on-one opportunity to give the Spiders a 2-0 lead heading into the half.
With a little over ten minutes remaining in the game, Adrian Pickar scored the final goal off of a feed into the circle from Tori Whitcher. Unfortunately, it would be too much for the Owls to overcome.
Both teams finished the game with 10 shots while Temple had one more penalty corner (5-4).
Kasey Ruth led the Owls with three shots, one on goal.
Junior Sarah Dalrymple made three saves in goal for the Owls.
The loss ends the season for the Cherry and White while Richmond moves on to play the winner of the MAC (Mid-American Conference) in a NCAA Tournament play-in game.
