KENT, Ohio – Holding off a nearly complete comeback attempt by Kent State, the Temple women's basketball team earned a 68-63 win on the road on the back of BJ Williams who scored a career-high 23 points.

Temple nearly let a 21-point second-half lead slip away entirely, as Kent State shot 56 percent in the half and rallied to come within three by the final minute.
The first half saw early runs, first by the Owls who broke an 8-8 tie to take a 15-8 lead at 11:55 after back-to-back jumpers by McCarthy and Williams.
Kent State used a 6-0 run to pull within one, 15-14 at 9:38, but the rest of the half was all Temple.
The Owls out-scored the Golden Flashes 20-9 down the stretch, and it was McCarthy and Williams who once again combined for back-to-back buckets to give Temple its first double-digit lead. Temple led by as many as 14 before taking a 12-point, 35-23 lead into the break.
Getting her first start of the season, Williams was the key to Temple's success in the first half, scoring a career-high 11 points by halftime. The Owls' 52 percent field goal shooting in the half was their best of the season, while Kent State shot just 35 percent.
Williams only got better early in the second half, starting off with a three-pointer and totaling seven points in the first four minutes as Temple opened with a 13-4 run to take a 21-point, 48-27 lead.
That's when the Kent State rally began as Jones scored 11 points in a 23-6 run that pulled the Golden Flashes within four, 54-50 with 7:36 remaining.
McCarthy hit a three at 7:24 to temporarily stop the bleeding, but Temple went without a field goal in the final four minutes of the game and allowed the Golden Flashes to nearly complete the comeback.
Kent State came within three on two occasions, the second with a minute remaining, but 2-of-2 at the free throw line from LaKeisha Eaddy was enough to seal the deal for the Owls.
Temple has a week off before its next game. The Owls will play host to Villanova in game televised on CBS College Sports on Sunday, Dec. 20 at 4:00 p.m.
