Softball's Jess Hirschbuhl and Krystle Metzler Earn Atlantic 10 Conference Honors

PHILADELPHIA - Freshman Jess Hirschbuhl and junior Krystle Metzler of the Temple softball teams were both honored by the Atlantic 10, as Hirschbuhl was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team and Metzler was selected to the Academic All-Conference team, this conference announced this afternoon.
Hirschbuhl was one of the Owls most consistent hitters all season, leading the team in batting average (.314), doubles (7), and slugging percentage (.527) and on-base percentage (.449). In the field, she sported a stellar .971 fielding percentage while playing shortstop.
Metzler, a business management major with a cumulative grade point average of 3.89, was selected to Academic All-Conference Team for the first time in her career. She was recently selected as one of the Temple University's "Trustee Ten" student-athletes for the second consecutive season. The Owls' starting catcher for all 40 games this season, Metzler sported a .996 fielding percentage behind the plate while catching 12 runners stealing.
UMass' Carly Normandin and Brandice Balschmiter were named the A-10's Player and Pitcher of the Year respectively.
