PHILADELPHIA – A crowd of 2,719, the largest in Temple volleyball history, witnessed the top-ranked volleyball program in the nation prove their talent on Friday night as the Penn State Nittany Lions defeated the Owls (3-4) by a score of 3-0 in McGonigle Hall.
Penn State improved to 10-0 for the season and extended its NCAA-record winning streak to 74 matches in a 25-13, 25-9, 25-15 defeat of Temple.
Junior outside hitter Yun Yi Zhang led the Owls with 11 kills in the match. Zhang was leading all players in NCAA Division I in kills per set as of earlier in the week at 6.17.
Three players led the Nittany Lions with 11 kills apiece, Arielle Wilson, Blair Brown and Megan Hodge.
The Owls looked strong starting the second set, leading early at 5-3 before Brown tied the score at 5-5 with a kill and the Lions went on a run to put the set out of reach.
Temple stayed in it early once again in the third set, and was down 8-7 before the Nittany Lions used a 7-2 run to pull ahead.
Temple will be back in action tomorrow against St. Francis (PA) at 2:00 p.m. and again vs. Penn State at 7:30 p.m. Both matches will be played at Penn State.
