Noone dishes two assists, Coly nets winner of bench
Ambler, Pa. – The Temple men's soccer team (4-3-1) continued their winning ways Friday afternoon against visiting Hartford, defeating their foe 2-1. Owls' senior J.T. Noone continues to fuel the offense, setting up junior Augustin Coly for the game-winner in the 66th minute.
After a scoreless first half, the Cherry and White opened the scoring in the 49th minute. Noone, controlling a pass from sophomore Tyler Witmer, fed classmate Francois Sagna for a blast from six yards out, deflecting off of Hawks' keeper Nenad Cudic and rolling into the back of the net.
Hartford would answer with a goal of their own, as James Stamopoulos centered a ball to the six for Carlos Villa to chip over the head of Owls' keeper Bret Mollon. Mollon, who made several spectacular diving stops on the day, posted four saves in his fourth win of the season.
With the game deadlocked at 1-1, Noone again answered the call. Taking a free kick after a Hartford foul, Noone volleyed a ball which was deflected into the air by a Hawks' defender, then headed into the back of the net by Coly, giving the Owls a 2-1 advantage.
“I though we played well against a very good team. I told the team before the game that this is going to be one of the better teams we face all year,” said head coach Dave MacWilliams. “I thought our guys did a very good job. We scored two goals, had a chance for a few more, and I am pleased with the results. I am real happy we won the last three, and now we have a few days for the guys to rest their legs.”
The Owls take the pitch again next Saturday against Siena, in their final non-conference contest starting at 1:00.
