PHILADELPHIA – Temple alumnus
Raheem Brock (1998-2001) and his Indianapolis Colt teammates will be playing in Super Bowl XLIV on Sunday, Feb. 7. Kickoff at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla., is slated 6:30 p.m. on CBS.
In his eighth season with Indianapolis, Brock is making his second Super Bowl appearance.
He has played in 17 games this season with eight starts at left end. He has 31 tackles, including 25 solos, 3.5 sacks, three pressures, and two fumble recoveries.
A second-team All-Big East selection, Brock had 51 tackles and four sacks for the Owls as a senior. The two-time Temple team captain was drafted in 2002 by the Philadelphia Eagles. Brock signed as a free agent with Indianapolis in 2002, helping the Colts to the 2007 Super Bowl championship.
Brock started in the 2007 Super Bowl, a 29-17 win over the Chicago Bears at Dolphin Stadium, along with fellow Temple alum
Dan Klecko (1992-02).
Since 1975, eleven Temple football players have made 18 appearances in 14 Super Bowls with 14 winning championship rings.
The Owl with the most Super Bowl rings is
Randy Grossman (1971-73), who captured four as a TE under head coach Chuck Noll with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1970s.
Brock is the son of former Owl running back and NFL veteran Zachary Dixon, who rushed for 1,522 yards and 12 touchdowns in Cherry & White from 1977-78.
In December, the Philadelphia native gave back to students at his childhood elementary school-- Lingelbach Elementary School. Brock’s foundation, Brock’s Kids, selected 50 students, based on an essay writing contest, to take part in a holiday shopping spree. Six current Owls assisted during the shopping trip to Target.
Brock’s Kids helps underprivileged children in Philadelphia and Indianapolis.
Brock is the sole Owl alumnus on the 2010 Super Bowl rosters. Temple’s historical list of participants is listed below.
