Monmouth transfer eligible to compete as a graduate student
PHILADELPHIA – Dutch Gaitley, who played the last three seasons at Monmouth University, has been granted a one-time transfer exception by the NCAA and will be eligible to compete on the Temple University men's basketball team this season.
Gaitley, a 6-9, 240-pound forward, graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2009 after just three years at Monmouth. He was enrolled in graduate school last season, studying business administration with a focus on real estate. At Temple, he will be pursuing a master's degree in sports administration.
“Dutch is a hard-working, bright young man who will be a good addition to our program,” Temple University head coach Fran Dunphy said.
A 2006 graduate of Archbishop Carroll High, the Haverford, Pa. native averaged 2.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per game in 88 career games at Monmouth. His best season came in his second season, 2008-09, when he played in 27 games, starting 26, and averaged career bests of 2.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game while blocking 22 shots.
The three-time defending Atlantic 10 champion Temple Owls hold their first practice of the 2010-11 season Friday. A preseason Top 25 selection by Blue Ribbon Basketball Magazine and FOXSports.com, the Owls open the season at home on Friday, November 12 against Seton Hall.
