Women’s Soccer Falls to Xavier In Double-Overtime, 1-0

Owls unable to capitalize on solid chances

AMBLER, Pa. – The Temple women's soccer battled Xavier for 103 minutes before letting up the deciding goal in a double-overtime 1-0 loss, Sunday at Ambler Sports Complex. The Owls are now 6-8-1, 1-4-1 in Atlantic 10 play, while Xavier moves to 6-9-0, 2-4-0 in A-10 action.
The Owls outshot their opponent 15-13 in the game and missed out on several scoring opportunities in the first half. In the 17th minute, junior forward Allicia 'Sha' Yurkovic stole a pass and beat a Xavier defender off the dribble, ripping a shot off Xavier keeper Jennifer Perri. Minutes later, senior forward Niki Conn beat a defender one-on-one and blasted a ball off the crossbar.
The golden goal came from Xavier senior forward Carly Wenzel, who blasted a free kick from 35 yards out to beat the keeper top shelf.
Temple keeper Tara Murphy made six saves on the day, including a diving save that was ripped by Xavier junior forward Jessica Brooks off a Leslie Boersma corner.
Xavier keepers Jennifer Perri and Jenny Rosen combined for five saves in the game, four and one respectively.
The Owls go on the road this week to face Massachusetts on Friday in Amherst and Rhode Island Sunday in Kingston.
