Owls' sophomore netted three goals over the weekend
PHILADELPHIA - For the first time in his career, Temple men's soccer sophomore Cody Calafiore has been named Philadelphia Soccer Six Player of the Week, announced by the league today. Calafiore netted all three goals in a 1-1 conference weekend for the Owls at Dayton and Xavier.
Against the Flyers, the Howell, N.J., native (Howell) netted the go-ahead goal in the 62nd minute of the contest. After Dayton tied the game at 1-1, Calafiore struck again with the game-winner in the 82nd.
Down 1-0 at Xavier, Calafiore was called on to take a crucial penalty kick in the 87th minute. He successfully converted the free try and forced overtime with his third goal of the weekend.
In his first season with the Owls after transferring from Monmouth, Calafiore has been a key part of the offense. He has netted four goals in the team's last three games, now leading Temple with five goals and 12 points. In the conference standings, he ranks third in goals.
The Temple men's soccer team (4-6-2, 2-1-0 A-10) returns to Ambler Sports Complex this weekend to take on Massachusets (Oct. 22 at 2:30 p.m.) and Rhode Island (Oct. 24 at 1:00 p.m.).
