Sarah Dalrymple makes eight saves for the Owls
AMHERST, Mass. – The lone goal of the game was scored by Massachusetts as the league-leading Minutewomen (10-6, 4-0) defeated the Temple field hockey team on Friday afternoon in Amherst. Senior goalkeeper Sarah Dalrymple made eight saves for the Owls, who fell to 7-10 overall and 2-2 in the Atlantic 10.
Both teams were scoreless until near halftime, when Katie Kelly scored for UMass off an assist from teammate Nikki Panciocci. The Minutewomen recorded an 11-3 advantage in shots for the half and took five penalty corners to Temple's one, but Dalrymple was solid in the net with five saves.
The shooting margin was similar in the second half as UMass out-shot Temple 8-1. The Owls had chances to create offensive opportunities after coming up strong on defense, but struggled to retain possession.
“It was a hard-fought game,” said Temple head coach Amanda Janney. “Sarah played really well, and our other seniors really stepped up today also. It was just disappointing that we couldn't take more advantage of the chances we had to convert on offense.”
Temple will return home in two days to take on Saint Louis at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 24.
