Owl senior forward one of 50 players on prestigious list

PHILADELPHIA  – The preseason accolades continue to pour in for Temple senior forward Lavoy Allen even though the 2010-11 campaign is already a week old.  Today Allen was named to the Naismith preseason watch list, one of 50 players from around the nation to be so honored.

The list, compiled by the Atlanta Tipoff Club's Board of Selectors, helps in the process of selecting the winner of the Naismith Trophy, presented annually by AT&T, to the nation's College Basketball Player of the Year.

Allen, who was named preseason first team All-America by the Basketball Times, was selected earlier as finalist for the Wooden Award

A 2010 first team all-Atlantic 10 Conference and USBWA All-District performer, Allen, who is averaging 10.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game this season for the #21/20 Owls, became the first Temple player to average a double-double since Ollie Johnson accomplished the feat in 1970-71, averaging 11.5 points and 10.7 rebounds per game as a junior in 2009-10.  The Morrisville, Pa. native (Pennsbury High) led the team in rebounding, blocks (50) and field goal percentage (.536) while ranking third with 83 assists.

In the Owls' final regular season game, Allen became the 46th player to score 1000 points when he tallied 12 points in a 70-57 win over George Washington (3/6). The two-time A-10 all-defensive team selection became the first Temple player to grab 20 or more rebounds in a game when he pulled down 21 in the team's 65-53 win at La Salle (2/28).  His 375 rebounds rank fourth on the Temple all-time single-season list while his 876 boards place seventh on the TU career chart.

Allen, who shared team MVP honors with Ryan Brooks at the Temple awards banquet, helped the Owls to a 29-6 record and a third straight A-10 Championship.  Temple was ranked #12 in the final 2010 Associated Press poll.  The Owls are currently #21/20 in the polls this season.

A member of the 2010 USA Basketball Select squad, Allen was joined on the Naismith preseason watch list by two Atlantic 10 Conference players, Kevin Anderson of Richmond and Chris Wright of Dayton.  Villanova's Corey Fisher was the only other Philadelphia Big 5 player named to the list.
