FORT MYERS, Fla. – In the series finale Sunday afternoon against Florida Gulf Coast, the Temple baseball team managed some late offense but could not surmount an early deficit, falling 15-6. Three other Owls – junior Ben Flanary, classmate Rafael Cordero, and sophomore Jabair Khan – recorded two hits in the contest.

FGCU starter Pete Woodworth recorded the win with five strikeouts over four innings, allowing only two hits.

Redshirt-sophomore Steve Nikorak led off the sixth inning with a double to right center field. Junior Jean Carlos Diaz would follow suit, also doubling and scoring Nikorak in the process. Diaz crossed the plate on a single from junior Adrian Perez, cutting the FGCU lead to 10-2.
Five runs in the bottom half of the inning from FGCU padded their margin, but Temple still continued to show some fight.
Junior Ryan Ferguson connected with a 1-2 pitch for a solo homerun to start off the scoring in the eighth for TU. After a Perez walk, junior Ben Flanary singled and both runners advanced to second and third on a wild pitch. McKoy singled to left to plate both runners, moving the score to 15-5.
Freshman Henry Knabe, pinch-hitting for Perez, made the most of his second career at bat. Knabe lifted a ball over the left field fence with two outs in the ninth, recording his first career hit on a solo homerun.
Austin Gaines and Zach Maxfield each had three hits and three RBI in the Eagles' 20-hit attack.
Temple (0-3) next travels to Las Vegas, Nev. for a four-game stint with UNLV. The Owls will compete February 26 at 7:00 p.m., play a twin-bill on February 27 (2:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m.), and close out the series on February 28 at 1:00 p.m.
