Women's Fencing Set For NCAA Regional Championships

Owls send the maximum of 12 fencers to compete

PHILADELPHIA – Although the entire team qualified, the eighth-ranked Temple women’s fencing team will be sending the NCAA standard 12 fencers to the Regional Championships, held March 13 at Drew University in Madison, N.J.

In epee, senior Kristin Howell, juniors Grace Wu and Alyssa Lombardi, and sophomore Jill Bratton will be representing TU. Lombardi was recently named to the NIWFA All-Academic team.

Senior Melissa Parker, sophomores Alyssa Lomuscio and Cara Taggersell, and freshman Mikayla Varadi will be fencing foil for the Owls this weekend. Parker, who went undefeated to win the foil title at the NIWFA Championships, garnered first team All-NIWFA.

For the sabre squad, senior Christie Griffith, juniors Audrey Barroso and Sam Pascarelli, and sophomore Kamali Thompson are fencing for the Cherry and White. Griffith and Thompson were both named first team All-NIWFA, after squaring off for the sabre title at the NIWFA Championships last weekend.

Action at the 2010 Mid-Atlantic/South NCAA Regional Championship is set for March 13 at Drew University.
