BOSTON, Mass. – After two days of competition against the nation's best collegiate fencers, the Temple women's fencing team took ninth place overall at the NCAA Championships held in Boston, Mass. All four Owls took top 20 finishes at the end of two grueling days of competition.
“All four girls worked very hard through four day so of intense competition,” said assistant coach Bradley Baker. “The field was very competitive and the end result was one that everyone should be proud of.”
Senior Kristin Howell took 11th place in epee, being named Honorable Mention All-America for the third-straight season.
In foil, senior Melissa Parker placed 14th while freshman Mikayla Varadi took 18th. Sophomore Kamali Thompson placed 14th in sabre.
Overall, Harvard's Caroline Vloka won the title in sabre, Columbia/Bernard's Nicole Ross won foil, and Penn State's Margherita Guzzi Vincenti won epee.
Team totals finished the same as they did at the end of day one, with St. John's in first, Notre Dame in second, and Penn State in third.
