Owl junior forward continues to garner postseason honors
PHILADELPHIA – Temple junior forward Lavoy Allen has been named to the USBWA First Team All-District II squad. Allen, who earned first team all-Atlantic 10 Conference and made the league's all-defensive team for the second straight season, was joined on the team by De'Sean Butler (West Virginia), Austin Freeman (Georgetown), Ashton Gibbs (Pittsburgh), Jeremy Hazell (Seton Hall), Wes Johnson (Syracuse), Greg Monroe (Georgetown), Andy Rautins (Syracuse), Scottie Reynolds (Villanova) and Ryan Wittman (Cornell). Reynolds was named District II Player of the Year while Syracuse's Jim Boeheim was selected as the Coach of the Year.
Allen is on pace to become the first Temple player to average a double-double since Ollie Johnson accomplished the feat in 1970-71. The Morrisville, Pa. native (Pennsbury High) currently leads the team in rebounding (10.8 rpg.) and blocks (46) while scoring at an 11.7 clip.
In the Owls' final regular season game, Allen became the 46th player to score 1000 scoring 12 points in the 70-57 win over George Washington (3/6). He has posted 12 double-double on the season and he became the first Temple player to grab 20 or more rebounds in a game when he pulled down 21 in the team's 65-53 win at La Salle (2/28). His 334 rebounds this season tie for seventh on the all-time list with John Baum ('67-68) while his 826 boards place ninth on the TU career chart.
The Owls, 26-5, 14-2, are the #1-seed in the A-10 Tournament. They open play against the winner of Tuesday's First Round game featuring #9-seed Duquesne at #8-seed St. Bonaventure on Friday at Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall. Tip time is noon with the game being televised live by Comcast SportsNet and broadcast on 1210 AM WPHT.
