Men's Soccer Battles Through Rain To Scoreless Tie With Hofstra

Mollon posts two saves to preserve shutout
Box Score
LONG ISLAND, N.Y. - A delayed start due to heavy storms gave the Temple men's soccer team (0-2-2) one more element to battle in their Thursday night contest with Hofstra (2-2-2). Rain throughout the contest made for wet conditions, with the match ending in a scoreless tie.
Redshirt-senior keeper Bret Mollon made two saves to preserve his second shutout of the season. On the opposite side, Hofstra keeper Greg Cumpstone fended off five Temple attempts.
Although Mollon was only forced to make two saves both in the second half, his first one was a serious difference maker. HU's Mike Annarumma headed a ball to the far post that took a diving stop from Mollon to prevent crossing the goal line.
Senior Max Kinderwater and junior Tyler Witmer led the way with two shots, as five different Owls posted a shot on goal. Kinderwater and Witmer, along with sophomores Billy Kappock and Matt MacWilliams and freshman Vaughn Spurrier each put a ball on net.
The Owls best chance came just after half, when MacWilliams sprung a long distance shot that got away from HU keeper Cumpstone. Witmer was in the right spot for the rebound, but Cumpstone quickly recovered and stopped his attempt.
HU's Annarumma had his sights set on netting the golden goal with 10-seconds left in overtime. Annarumma had a clear path to the goal on a breakaway, but junior Rodrigo Zuleta came in with a beautiful slide tackle to halt the effort.
The contest was broadcast by Verizon Fios1 Sports, with the telecast airing on tape-delay in Long Island and New Jersey.
Temple returns home to take on Fairleigh Dickinson at Ambler Sports Complex on Sunday, September 19 at 1:00 p.m.
