Fourth Member Named to Addazio’s Staff

PHILADELPHIA – Ben Albert, who returns to collegiate coaching after a year in the NFL, has been named an assistant coach for defense at Temple University, head football coach Steve Addazio announced on Monday.

“I am really excited that Ben Albert, his wife Lisa, and their two children are joining the Temple family,” Addazio said. “Ben has a great deal of experience recruiting in the Northeast. He comes to us from the Jacksonville Jaguars. Throughout his career, he's coached linebackers and the defensive line. Ben brings a wealth of coaching and recruiting experience to Temple, and we're happy to have him join our staff.”

“I'm excited to have the opportunity to return to my home region,” Albert said. “It is the people within an organization that breathe life into it. Here at Temple, there are many outstanding people who are a part of one of best universities in the Northeast. I'm proud to be a part of the great tradition at Temple.”

After spending 14 seasons as a coach on the collegiate level, Albert served as the assistant defensive line coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2010 where he coached Temple alumnus and 3rd round draft pick DT Terrance Knighton (2005-08).

Albert previously served as associate head coach/linebackers at the University of Delaware from 2006-09. He helped the Blue Hens to the FCS title game in 2007.

He served as defensive line/linebackers coach at the University of Richmond from 1997-2000, helping the Spiders to two Atlantic 10 titles (1998, 2000). He returned to Richmond in 2004 as defensive line coach and special teams coordinator. He moved to the NCAA I-A level in 2001 where he served as defensive line coach at Rutgers University under head coach Greg Schiano.

A native of Paterson, N.J., Albert returned to his alma mater from 2002-03 where he served as inside linebackers coach and special teams coordinator. In addition to his coaching career, he worked as a minority fellowship intern with the Oakland Raiders in the summer of 1999.

Albert played nose guard and defensive tackle at Massachusetts from 1990-94, leading the Minutemen to the Yankee Conference title in 1990 as a freshman. A team captain, he earned first-team All-Yankee Conference and All-East honors as a senior in 1994 and led a defense that ranked 13th nationally in total defense. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science and sociology in 1995 and a master's degree in education in 1997.

Albert and his wife, Lisa, have a daughter, Maya (3), and son, Elijah (2).
