Veteran Owl administrator resigns effective January 23

PHILADELPHIA - Temple Univerity Deputy Athletic Director Eric Roedl has resigned his position effective January 23 to become the Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director at the University of Oregon, announced TU Director of Athletics Bill Bradshaw.

As the Oregon athletic department's chief financial officer, Roedl will be responsible for the sustainability of the department's overall budget, including all contract negotiations with internal constituents and external partners, will oversee components involved in capital improvement campaigns and strategic planning, will serve as a key liaison between the athletic department and the University's general counsel's office, as well as direct the department's Office of Human Resources.  Roedl will also be responsible for oversight of athletics facilities and will serve as sport administrator for designated sports.

"Eric Roedl has done great things at Temple as a valuable member of the athletic department's senior staff," Bradshaw said.  "I will miss him, not only professionally, but personally.  This is a great opportunity for him and his family and I wish him all the best at Oregon."

"It has been an honor and a privilege to serve Temple Athletics over the past eight and a half years through a period of significant transition, growth, and success," Roedl said. "My family and I have had an amazing experience and would like to thank Bill Bradshaw and Temple University for all they have done for us"

Roedl began his tenure at Temple as associate athletic director/finance and administration in the fall of 2003 prior to his elevation as the school's senior associate athletic director from July 2007 through June 2011.
His hiring culminates a national search for the replacement of Jamie Moffitt, who will begin her new role as the University's vice president for finance and administration on Jan. 1.

As Temple's No.2 athletic department administrator, the Northport, N.Y. native not only was in charge of all financial matters, contract negotiations and long-term financial/strategic planning for a program that sponsors 24 intercollegiate sports with a budget that exceeds $30 million, he served as a member of the school's NCAA Certification steering committee, assisted with the coordination and funding of over $25 million in capital improvements, oversaw the administration of the Owls' football, men's basketball and baseball programs, and oversaw sports medicine, strength and conditioning, and equipment services.

As the CFO at Temple, Roedl successfully balanced eight consecutive athletic department budgets and accumulated over $2 million in reserve funds which were subsequently reinvested into facility projects and other strategic initiatives.  In addition, he chaired an athletics strategic planning committee and created a plan which identified and prioritized $100 million in athletics facility improvements, and assisted in the development of a scholarship equivalency structure and roster management plan to improve gender equity.

Roedl oversaw external operations including marketing and promotions, ticket sales, and corporate sponsorship sales from July 2006 through June 2011.  During this period Temple achieved significant growth across all revenue categories, including over a 300% increase in the football season ticket base and over 100% growth in student season ticket sales and attendance.

Graduating summa cum laude from Villanova University with a bachelor's degree in accounting in 1997, the former collegiate tennis co-captain and academic All-Big East selection earned a Master of Sport Administration from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 2001 and a Master of Business Administration from the College of William & Mary in 2003.

The 36-year-old Roedl began his career in collegiate athletics assisting with event operations at North Carolina for one year (1999-2000) before becoming athletic business manager at William & Mary in June 2000. He previously worked in the accounting firm of Ernst & Young in New York City for two years, where he earned New York State CPA certification.

Roedl currently is serving as the second vice president of the College Athletic Business Management Association.
