PHILADELPHIA
- Competing for the only time at home this season, the Temple women's gymnastics team put on an admirable display in McGonigle Hall as the Owls hosted the Ken Anderson Memorial Invitational on Saturday afternoon.  Temple, led by first place finishes on beam from freshman Sylvie Borschel and floor from junior Corrine Williams, took second place with a team score of 186.725.

"The meet had its highs and lows, and even though they highs were great unfortunately the lows definitely effected our team score," commented head coach Aaron Murphy.  "I'm pleased with our performance and our second place finish, but do not think the score we put up today is representative of our team."

Towson earned top honors with a team score of 190.700, followed by Temple (186.725), William & Mary (186.200) and West Chester (184.625).

Temple's vault squad put on a show to start the meet, scoring a team total of 47.575.  Junior Kaity Watson led the way for TU on the apparatus, scoring 9.700 to place third.  Also scoring well for the Owls was freshman Jasmine Johnson, who tallied 9.525.  Towson's Avis Hixon took top honors on vault with a score of 9.800.

Borschel led the Owls beam squad to post a meet-high score of 47.125.  Temple also saw high marks from junior Corrine Williams who tied for fourth with a score of 9.550.  Seniors Marissa Oxenford and Chelsea Troutman fared well on the apparatus, scoring 9.275 and 9.25 respectively.

The Owls struggled on bars, with a bright spot coming from freshman Heather Zaniewski.  Zaniewski scored 9.35, followed by a 9.200 from senior Kathryn Ho.  Senior Chelsea Lapent, who suffered an injury during warm-ups but endured to compete, scored 9.15 on bars.  Towson's Kacy Catanzaro posted a meet-best 9.775 on bars.

Temple closed the meet on floor, the event the Owls looked most comfortable on.  Williams and Oxenford brought the crowd to their feet with impressive performances, placing first and second with scores of 9.825 and 9.800 respectively.  Borschel also posted a solid score of 9.625 to help the Owls score 47.300 as a unit.

After the competition was over, Temple honored its five seniors - Katie Canning, Oxenford, Troutman, Ho and Lapent.  Temple returns to action on February 12 when the Owls travel to New Haven, Conn., for a dual meet with Yale.
