The Cherry and White (25-7), under the direction of fifth-year head coach Fran Dunphy, enters the tournament winners of 12 out of their last 14 contests. Senior Lavoy Allen, named first team all-conference for the second straight season and to the league's all-defensive team for the third time, posted his sixth straight double-double against Richmond in the A-10 semifinals.  He leads the team in rebounding (8.4 rpg.) and ranks second in scoring (11.8 ppg.).

Junior guard Ramone Moore, a second team all-A10 and NABC all-District selection, continues to lead TU in scoring (14.9 ppg.) and is tied for the team lead in steals (40). Junior guard Juan Fernandez, a third team all-conference pick, also scores in double figures (10.7 ppg.) while topping the squad in assists (4.0 apg.).

Penn State (19-14) battled to the Big Ten tournament final, falling to #1/1 Ohio State by a margin of 71-60 today.  The Nittany Lions had won four consecutive contests, including a defeat of #13/13 Wisconsin in the Big 10 quarterfinals, and are now 7-3 in their last 10 games.  Penn State is a former member of the A-10 conference, leaving after the 1991-92 season.

Senior Talor Battle, named first team all-conference and first team NABC All-District 7, leads Penn State in scoring averaging 20.0 ppg.  Senior Jeff Brooks joins Battle averaging double-digit points (13.2 ppg.) and tops the team in rebounding (6.5 rpg.)

Temple and Penn State will be meeting for the 92nd time in the history of the two programs, with the Owls holding a 59-32 advantage all-time.  The squads squared off on December 5 of last season at the Liacouras Center, with the Owls coming out on top of a defensive struggle with a 45-42 win.  The Owls and Nittany Lions last met in the NCAA Tournament during the 2000-01 season, with Temple earning an 84-72 win in a Sweet 16 game.
