Ferguson will compete for a roster spot for the defending Frontier League Champions
Joliet Slammers' Release
JOLIET, IL – The Joliet Slammers, who are the reigning independent Frontier League champions, announced Wednesday the signing of former Temple catcher Ryan Ferguson,'11.
In his senior year at Temple, Ferguson batted .316 (71-225). The product of Glen Mills, Pa and Garnett Valley High School was second on the team with 10 homers, also driving in 48 runs and scoring 42 times. He proved to be very versatile, making all 53 starts last season at either right field, first base, designated hitter or catcher.
But what really stood out about Ferguson's 2011 campaign was the 24-game hitting streak he strung together to begin the season. Including the final two games of 2010, his 26-game hitting streak is the longest in the history of Temple's baseball program.
While backing the plate for the Owls, Ferguson was tabbed a Philadelphia All-Big 5 All-Star in 2010 before being named a member of the A-10 All-Academic team last season.
During his time at Temple, Ferguson showed he had a knack for succeeding in the classroom as well, as he was also recognized as a Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 University Division first team member.
“Ferguson showed over the past few years he could hit at the highest level of college baseball,” VP of Baseball Operations Ron Biga said. “We are looking forward to seeing him compete for a spot behind the plate.”
