Bill Mahoney, '68, Named To MAC 100 Men's Cross Country Century Team

12.5.12 | Men's Cross Country

PHILADELPHIA – In honor of its 100 year anniversary, the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) has released its Century Teams for each sport it has sponsored to commemorate the student-athletes from each era. Century Teams were selected from an online fan vote combined with MAC Sports Information Directors vote. Former Temple cross country start Bill Mahoney ('68) has been selected to the 1912-74 cross country team.

Mahoney was a monopolist of the MAC cross country championships during his tenure as a runner for the Owls. The native of Bensalem, Pa. won three straight (1965-67) individual varsity titles. His time of 26:55.2 in the 1967 championship run bettered his time from the previous year of 26:56.6.
Also during his time as a runner at Temple, he displayed his winning form in the IC4A Championship, in which he placed as the runner-up as a sophomore, before earning a third place finish as a junior.

Mahoney also had an illustrious career as a member of the track and field team. Entering his senior year, he held a University record of the one mile run with a time of 4:12, which he set in the 1967 MAC Championship.
