PHILADELPHIA -
With two meets under their belt prior to Saturday, the Temple men's gymnastics team held its first meet in the confines of McGonigle Hall, where they welcomed the University of Illinois-Chicago and Springfield College. The Owls put on a show in front of their own supporters, as they put up another strong performance with their first place score total of 337.700. UIC took second with a total of 325.500, ahead of Springfield, who earned a third place tally of 320.500. Senior Adam Al-Rokh demonstrated his talent with a stellar perfomance, as he went on take the title in all-around with his combined score of 83.000 through the four events. Al-Rokh placed first overall on rings, while Taylor Brana won the event on parallel bars and Allan Malone secured the best score on the high bar.

Junior Brett Statman's night was essential in the Owls' team victory on Saturday night, as he earned team-high scores on floor exercise and on the vault, which was the only apparatus the Owls did not win as a unit.

Statman's routine on the mat put him in a first place tie with Springfield's Jimmy Pezzino with an identical score of 14.700. On the vault, where Statman also led his team, he finished second overall with a score of 14.600.

Battling illness, senior Chris Mooney still competed and still contibuted in a big way. On pommel horse, Mooney earned the team's highest score, 14.100, good enough for second place among all competitors in the event.

On pommel horse, Al-Rokh earned a total of 13.900, which was a strong number to add into his all-around count.

Putting on an impressive performance on vault was senior Jeff Zach, as he was granted a score of 14.200, which placed him only behind Statman for the team lead.

In the horizontal bar event, Malone's score of 14.100 sat as the highest. Finishing closest to him on the team and in third place overall was Logan Fiery, as he tallied a score of 13.700.

With the first place finish, the Owls improve to 9-1 on the year. Temple will remain at home, as it will host Air Force and Brockport next Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in its second home meet of the season at McGonigle Hall.
