Women's Tennis Drops Visiting Xavier, 6-1

ELKINS PARK, Pa. – The Temple women's tennis team hosted Xavier on Saturday evening, downing the Atlantic 10 rival, 6-1, in a match played at Fossler's Cheltenham Tennis Center in Elkins Park, Pa. TU is now 6-8 overall and 3-1 against A-10 teams. Xavier falls to 10-4 on the year, 3-1 in league play.

The Musketeers got the upper hand in the doubles matches, taking two of three to claim the point. Jordan Batey and Alicia Doms prevented the sweep with their 8-2 win at No. 3.

In singles action, Agnese Rozite got the Temple scoring started with a straight-set 6-2, 6-2 win over Lizzie Oosterbaan at the fourth flight. Batey followed at No. 3 with a 6-3, 6-2 defeat of Kally Alkire, and Maame Ama Osei made it a 3-1 match with her 7-5, 6-3 decision over Allyson Westling at No. 5.

Doms had to work extra hard for it, but eventually secured the match for the Owls with a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 win over Andrea Wolf at the second flight.

With the match decided, Yana Mavrina and Rebecca Breland picked up wins for good measure. Mavrina won a challenging 6-1, 5-7, 10-3 decision over Daniella Patton at No. 1, and Breland wrapped up the scoring with a 6-2 6-3 win against Natalie Handler.

The Owls head to Penn for a 4 p.m. match at the cross-city rival on Wednesday, March 21.
