Three Owls named All-Big 5
PHILADELPHIA – Temple University's head men's basketball coach Fran Dunphy was named the Big 5 Coach of the Year for the third straight year and fourth time in his six years at the school while all three of the Owls' guards earned all-Big 5 honors. Temple was also named the Big 5 Team of the Year. The awards will formally be presented at the Big 5 Awards Banquet held on Temple's campus April 23.
Senior Ramone Moore and junior Khalif Wyatt were named all-Big 5 First Team, while senior Juan Fernandez earned second team accolades. Moore and Fernandez earned second team all-Big 5 last season.
Dunphy, who has guided Temple to a 134-65 record, three A10 titles and five straight NCAA tournament appearances, led the Owls to a 24-8 record and a 3-1 city-series mark to share the Big 5 title for the 26th time in program history. Picked to finish second in the Atlantic 10 Conference, Dunphy guided the Cherry and White to its first outright A10 title since 1989-90 with a 13-3 league mark. He did that despite projected starting forward Scootie Randall missing the entire season and starting center Micheal Eric being sidelined for 13 games due to a knee injury.
Penn's Zack Rosen was named the Robert V. Geasey Award recipient as the Big 5 Player of the Year. Joining Rosen, Moore and Wyatt on the first team are Maalik Wayns (Villanova) and Langston Galloway (Saint Joseph's). The second team consisted of Fernandez, Tyreek Duren (La Salle), Ramon Galloway (La Salle), Earl Pettis (La Salle), Carl Jones (Saint Joseph's) and C.J. Aiken (Saint Joseph's).
Tickets for the banquet can be reserved by contacting Al Shrier at Temple University (215 651-1821/ashrier5@temple.edu).
