Keener will serve as the Bachelor's Student Keynote Speaker for the College of Education
PHILADELPHIA - Temple field hockey graduate Becca Keener has been chosen as the Bachelor's Student Keynote Speaker at the College of Education's commencement ceremony set for Thursday, May 10 at 12:30 p.m. in the Student Pavilion. Keener, a two-time Atlantic 10 Second Team honoree and elementary education major, was also recently honored as one of Temple's Trustee Ten for having one of the 10 highest grade-point-averages among all of Temple's student-athletes.
Bio courtesty of the College of Education:
Rebecca Ada Keener is the daughter of Craig and Marjorie Keener. She grew up in Lititz, Pa., which is located in the rural county of Lancaster, along with her three siblings. She attended Warwick High School where she graduated in the top percentile of her class and with varsity letters in field hockey, soccer, and track. She was also a member of the National Honor Society.
Becca chose Temple University to continue her education and field hockey career. She wanted to enjoy the experience that Philadelphia and Temple University had to offer and see what it was really like outside of her small town. Pursuing a career as a teacher was always the only choice for Becca. Watching her parents and grandparents enjoy teaching and make a difference in people's lives made it a part of her life at an early age. Now, following in her mother's footsteps, she graduates with a degree in elementary education, specializing in early childhood education.
She graduates Temple today in the top percentile of her class and with academic and athletic honors. While at Temple, Becca's fondest memories include attending her education classes with the friends she made, playing field hockey with her teammates and lifelong friends, and volunteering as a big sister for Big Brothers Big Sister. Temple was an awesome experience for Becca. She wants to thank her parents, teachers, coaches, friends, and teammates for making the experience all the better. She says she is so blessed to have been given such a remarkable opportunity and hopes to give back using what she has learned here at Temple. Becca plans on teaching elementary school and coaching field hockey in the fall.
