Men's Soccer Returns To Begin Preparation For 2012 Season Wednesday
8.14.12 | Men's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA— The quest for a third straight Atlantic 10 Tournament appearance begins Wednesday for the Temple Men's Soccer team, as it returns to campus to begin conditioning and training for the 2012 season, which starts Aug. 31 against Virginia Tech at the James Madison Tournament.
Camp opens with a day of meetings and other housekeeping items before opening practice at Ambler on Thursday, as the team prepares for the first of two exhibition games. The Owls will take on Towson Saturday evening in a practice match before hosting Lafayette in another tune-up game Tuesday morning.
Playing in their final season in the Atlantic 10 Conference, the Owls are looking to make a statement about the program in 2012 before moving to the BIG EAST next fall. A season ago, the Owls finished 9-10-0 and 5-4-0 in A-10 play—good enough for fourth place. The Owls reached the conference tournament for the third time in the last four years, but were knocked off by La Salle in a first round match.
Led by 13-year head coach David MacWilliams, the Owls return 10 players from a season ago, while adding a dynamic group of seven newcomers and a new assistant coach in Brian Clarhaut from 2011 BIG EAST runner-up UConn.
