Women's Soccer Opens Training Camp Monday
8.3.12 | Women's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA— The end to a long offseason is just days away from coming to a close for the Temple women's soccer team, as it returns to campus Monday to begin training for its 2012 season which opens Aug. 19 at Stony Brook.
Camp officially gets underway with the annual compliance meeting. From there the team will have their academic advising meeting before receiving equipment and having headshots and the team photo taken. The first day of camp wraps up with concussion testing and physicals.
Second-year head coach Matt Gwilliam is poised to have a strong run in the Atlantic 10 Conference this season, as this is the final year the Owls are competing in the conference since the athletic department becomes an official member of the BIG EAST in 2013-14.
The Owls, who finished 5-12-1 in their 2011 campaign, have 29 players coming into camp, including 15 freshmen, which is a program-most and the most in Division I women's soccer.
Gwilliam and his staff will be concentrating on building team camaraderie, especially with so many newcomers. To promote this, the team will be instilled with the tagline: “Together We Play, Together We Succeed”.
Watch the interview with Gwilliam (above) to hear his plans for training camp and some of his thoughts on the upcoming season.
