Official Philadelphia Soccer Six Release
PHILADELPHIA— Following a six-point week, freshman midfielder Jared Martinelli has generated the attention for himself, as the Atlantic 10 Conference and Philadelphia Soccer Six have each named him Rookie of the Week for his efforts in games against Manhattan, Cal Poly and Cal State Northridge last week.
Helping Temple earn its first victory of the season, Martinelli collected two points, having a pair of assists in the Owls' home-opener against Manhattan. His second helper of the game proved to be vital for his team, as it turned out to be game-winning assist on fellow freshman Dalton Andrusko's goal late in the opening half.
Martinelli continued to be an offensive force for the Owls when the team opened its trip to California on Friday evening.
In the Owls' match with Cal Poly, Martinelli helped redshirt sophomore Chas Wilson tie the game at one, as he dished out his third assist in two games. Continuing his scoring streak, Martinelli inked his name on the scoresheet at Cal State Northridge on Sunday night when he scored the first goal of his collegiate career in the 88th minute.
On the A-10's honor roll, Martinelli is joined by conference Player of the Week Abe Keller from Dayton, while being accompanied by Philadelphia Soccer Six Player of the Week Emerson Lawrence of Villanova and Defender of the Week Andrew D'Ottavi from Saint Joseph's.
