Men's Soccer Set to Host USF in the Inaugural American Athletic Conference Tournament

AMBLER, Pa. – Men's soccer is getting set to host USF in the quarterfinals of the inaugural American Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff at the Ambler Sports Complex. Live stats and a stream will be available for both games by clicking the links above.
TEMPLE NOTES...
The Owls are coming off a 1-0 win in double overtime last Saturday against Cincinnati on Senior Day. The win clinched home-field advantage for the Owls in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament. The Owls are undefeated in their last eight games, winning four of those games. They have dropped one game in the past 11 (6-1-4).  They currently are ranked No. 23 by Top Drawer Soccer, 5th in the Mid-Atlantic Region of the National Soccer Coaches Association of American's latest rankings and have a RPI ranking of 44.
Goalkeeper Dan Scheck had a stellar regular season. He has recorded shutouts in nine of the 10 wins for the Owls with 75 total saves, and only has allowed 12 goals all season. He was named Defender of the Week for the Philadelphia Soccer Six and placed on the Weekly Honor Roll by the Conference for his shutout against Cincinnati last week, making four saves in the match. Scheck leads the American Athletic Conference in shutouts, save percentage (.862), and is second in total saves.
Sophomore Jared Martinelli has also had a strong regular season. He has six goals and four assists to lead the team, including his first career hat trick in a 3-0 victory over Wofford. Martinelli is seven in the league in goals, and his 16 points are tied for fourth in the American Athletic Conference. Four of his goals are game-winners, tying him for second in the conference.
Ranked as the #20 recruiting class of 2013, the newcomers for the Owls made quite an impact during the regular. Seven newcomers have played, with Stefan Mueller and Robert Sagel starting all 17 games. Mueller is the only player besides Scheck to play every single minute for the Owls. Sagel had three goals and one assist during the regular season. Two of his goals have been headers off of corner kicks from Martinelli. The third goal came on a penalty kick against Memphis that gave Temple a 1-0 lead.
Senior Vaughn Spurrier is the only other Temple player with double digits in points (11), scoring four goals and assisting on three. He was named the Offensive Player of the Week by the Philadelphia Soccer Six and placed on the weekly honor roll of the conference for his game-winning goal in double overtime against Cincinnati. He has recorded points in three straight games, including a goal each in the past two games against Cincinnati and UCF.
Redshirt junior Chas Wilson has scored three goals in the past five games, including the game-winner in a 1-0 road win against Rutgers.
The Owls are unbeaten at home (7-0-2) and outscoring teams 14-3.
USF NOTES...
The Bulls finished the regular season 6-3-8, 2-2-4. The Bulls have lost only one game in their past eight games, going 3-1-4. All three wins came at home. They tied all three games on the road, and have an overall record of 0-1-5 on the road. They currently have a RPI ranking of 74.
USF was picked to finish third in the AAC Preseason Coaches' Poll behind Connecticut and Louisville. USF advanced to their sixth straight NCAA Tournament and seventh in eight years in 2012. The Bulls advanced past the first round of the NCAA Tournament for the 10th time in program history last season.
Defender Ben Sweat was a unanimous selection on the preseason all-conference team. He has started all 17 games and scored one goal this season.
Lindo Mfeka leads the team with 14 points with five goals and four assists. Mfeka is tied for fifth in the conference in points and sixth in goals.
Wesley Charpie leads the team with six assists, but hasn't scored a goal. Charpie is fifth in the conference in assists. Edwin Moalosi is the only other player with double-digit points (11) with four goals and three assists.
10 different players have scored a goal for the Bulls during the regular season.
Goalkeeper Brentton Muhammad has started in 16 games, while Dallas Jaye has started the other game and played in two total games. Muhammad has a record of 6-3-7, recording 54 saves with a save percentage of 0.818. He has allowed 12 total goals this season for a goals allowed average of 0.69 along with six shutouts. Jaye has allowed two goals in the two games he's played in, and has made two total saves.
USF is the third highest scoring team in the conference, averaging 3.65 goals a game and outscoring opponents 22-14. They lead the conference in corners (89) and offsides (52), and are second in yellow cards (26) and fouls (223).

ALL-TIME SERIES...
Temple tied USF 1-1 this season on Oct. 12 in the first ever game between the two programs. The game was played at Penn Park due to inclement weather forcing the game to be moved. Chas Wilson scored a game tying goal in the first half to allow the Owls to get the tie.
