ORLANDO, Fla. – Former Temple men's soccer standout Cody Calafiore has been invited to take part in preseason workouts with the Columbus Crew of the MLS this week down at the Disney Pro Soccer Classic.
On Sunday, Calafiore made his way to Orlando to meet up with the team to begin working out with the Crew on Monday before playing against the Philadelphia Union on Wednesday.
"This is a great opportunity for me," Calafiore said. "I thought I was done, but to get this chance is very exciting and I'm looking forward to getting out there and making the most of this experience and we'll see where it leads me."
Raised in Howell, N.J., Calafiore starred at Temple for three years after transferring from Monmouth following his freshman season.
After scoring four goals and dishing out six assists as a defensive midfielder as senior, Calafiore was named to the Atlantic 10 Conference's second team. In four seasons, Calafiore amassed 18 goals and 14 assists for 50 points and was named to the Philadelphia Soccer Six's All-Star Team the past two seasons. Prior to the start of his junior year, he was also named to the Herman Watch List, which is regarded as college soccer's most coveted award for an individual.
During his final season. Temple was 10-6-2 overall with Calafiore who helped the Owls to their third straight A-10 Tournament.
