PHILADELPHIA – The Temple Men's Gymnastics team is gearing up for their final home meet of the 2013 season, where the Owls will host Army and Navy on Saturday in McGonigle Hall. Beginning at 2:00 p.m., this meet also marks the last regular season meet before the ECAC Championships at Springfield College next weekend.
Coming off an action packed week, where the Owls took on University of California at Berkley, Air Force, and University of Illinois-Chicago, the team looks to put a win under their belts before they head off to the post season competition.
Senior Allan Mallone and Freshman Jon Rydzefski, both all-around competitors for the Owls, have been key competitors this season, posting top scores on all of the six events on multiple occasions.
The team's event specialists have also played a large role in the Owls success in 2013. Still rings specialists Evan Eigner and Dashiel Sears have posted season high scores of 14.55 and 14.45 respectively. Junior vault specialist Scott Haddaway has posted a hat trick of scores over 14.0, which has been very beneficial to the vault lineup this season. Graduate student Evan Burke, a floor and vault worker, looks to continue his season's success, with season highs of 15.3 on the floor and 14.9 on the vault.
As a team, the Owl's current record is 10-6, with a total team season high score of 421.3, posted at their last home meet against William and Mary and Penn State.
This weekend's tri-meet will honor this year's senior class and recognize their alumni. This year's senior class, consisting of Zachery Aguiar, Allan Malone, Dashiell Sears, Brett Statman, Alex Tighe, Assaf Zoor, and graduate students Taylor Brana and Evan Burke, has been very valuable to the Owls and will be exciting to watch as they take the floor of McGonigle Hall one last time.
