The Owls, who started 4 seniors (LT Cody Booth, LG Jeff Whittingham, RG Pete White, and RT Sean Boyle) on the O-line in their last game (vs. Fordham), opened up at Idaho with just one senior, Whittingham. Sophomore C Kyle Friend started both games; he was joined at Idaho by sophomore LT Zach Hooks, redshirt freshman RG Brenden McGowan, and true freshman RT Dion Dawkins.
McGowan and Dawkins were making their first collegiate starts. They were joined by MLB Rob Dvoracek, DT Matt Ioannidis, and DE Kiser Terry. Nate D. Smith made his first career start at DE after converting from LB just two weeks ago. McGowan and Terry played in their very first game and were joined by DE Bryan Osei.
Idaho broke Temple's defensive streak of 9 straight possession within the 10 yard line without a TD when they scored a TD on their first such possession in the 2nd Q. Since the final drive at Notre Dame, the Owls have now stopped a TD from inside the 10 on 10 of 11 possessions (33 plays, 19 yards; including. 21 plays of 0 or negative yards).
Tyler Matakevich entered the game averaging an NCAA best 12.0 tackles per game. He had 13 by halftime and finished with a school record 24 stops.
When Connor Reilly connected with Ryan Alderman on a 51-yard TD in the 4th Q, it was the longest play of each player's career. It was also Alderman's first career TD and his game-high 88 yards were a personal best. Alderman now has 15 catches for 221 yards already eclipsing his best college season (2010).
Kenneth Harper added 2 rushing TDs to his season totals. He now has 6 TDs, including at least one in each of the Owls 4 games.
With a career-high tying 6 catches, Jalen Fitzpatrick nearly doubled his season output. He came into the game with 8 catches in the first three games.
Sharif Finch seeing his first extended action on defense, recorded his first career sack.
