After accounting for school-record 24 tackles, (2 for a loss) in a 26-24 loss at Idaho Saturday, Temple's sophomore linebacker Tyler Matakevich is earning praise for his record-setting performance. The American Athletic Conference gave him honorable mention as Conference Defensive Player of the Week and the College Football Performance Awards also named him Honorable Mention LB Performer of the Week.

Matakevich broke the record previously held by Loranzo Square (23 vs. East Carolina, 1988) and Taylor Suman (23 vs. Syracuse, 1999). He also was named Temple University's Student-Athlete of the week.

For the season, Matakevich leads the NCAA in solo tackles (11.8 per game), is second in total tackles (15.0 per game) and eighth in tackles for loss (1.8 per game).

Up next for Matakevich and Temple is #7 Louisville, Saturday at Noon at Lincoln Financial Field. Matakevich led the Owls in tackles in last year's contest against Louisville with another double-digit tackling performance (10).
