Men's Soccer Faces UConn on Wednesday

PHILADELPHIA – Temple men's soccer heads to UConn on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are looking for the first win against each other after they tied 1-1 last season in the first ever meeting. The Owls will look to gain three points in the American Athletic Conference standings and momentum before hosting Tulsa on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. on Senior Day.

- Temple is 2-10-2, 1-3-1 with three games left for the 2014 season. The Owls lost on the road twice last week. On Tuesday they fell in double overtime 1-0 on a penalty kick at Yale. Cincinnati defeated them 5-1 on Saturday after scoring four second half goals.
- 12 underclassmen have started a game for Temple. 17 total underclassmen have appeared in a game.
- Five freshmen have started at least eight games for the Owls: midfielder Felipe Liborio (13 games), midfielder Miguel Polley (12), defender Mark Grasela (nine), midfielder Brendon Creed (eight), and forward Olli Tynkkynen (nine).
- Liborio scored his first collegiate goal last Saturday at Cincinnati.
- Senior goalkeeper Dan Scheck is currently second in career goals allowed average (0.97) behind Jeff Kraft's (1977-80) 0.85 average, ninth in career saves (180) and fourth in career wins (16).
- Sophomore defender Robert Sagel has played all 1,341 minutes of the season. Sophomore defender Matt Mahoney is second in minutes played with 1,265.
- Sagel, Scheck and junior forward/midfielder Jared Martinelli were selected to the Preseason All-American Athletic Conference Team. Scheck was voted by the coaches as the Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year.
- Temple was predicted to finish fifth in the conference by the preseason coaches' poll.
- UConn comes into the game with a 5-6-2, 3-1-1 record. The Huskies have not lost in their past four conference games, shutting out Memphis 1-0, Tulsa 2-0, and UCF 1-0 during that span.
- The Huskies were the unanimous favorites to win the conference in the preseason poll.
- Sophomore forward Cyle Larin leads the team with five goals and 13 points. Larin was tabbed the conference rookie of the year last season and selected to this year's MAC Hermann Watch List and the preseason all-conference team as an unanimous pick.
- Senior defenseman Sergio Campbell was selected as the preseason defensive player of the year and has started all 13 games.
- Senior midfielder Adria Beso Marco was also named to the MAC Hermann Watch List and has contributed two goals.
- Redshirt-junior Jacob Wagmeister and redshirt-freshman Scott Levene have shared the duties in goal. Wagmeister started the first eight games and has a 1.69 goals allowed average and .725 save percentage. Levene has started the last five games, pitching shutouts in four of the games with 13 saves.
- The two schools tied in the first ever meeting last season on Oct. 2. Sagel scored on a header from a corner kick from Martinelli in the second half.
