PHILADELPHIA - No. 16 Temple field hockey's Lizzy Millen and Amber Youtz have been selected as two of the 38 seniors across the nation to play in the 2014 NFHCA Division I Senior Game, as announced by the NFHCA on Wednesday. The game will be held on Saturday, Nov. 22 at the University of Maryland, with the action set to begin at 3 p.m.
The two are joined by four other BIG EAST players who were selected, and Temple is one of just five programs to have multiple seniors participating.
"The NFHCA has selected a very impressive list of seniors," said Temple head coach Amanda Janney. "We're proud of Amber and Lizzy for all of their accomplishments and contributions to Temple. We're grateful that they have been recognized as the best in the nation, especially since they have been a major part of this year's national ranking and our success."
Millen and Youtz are the ninth and 10th seniors in the last eight years who will represent the Owls at the game. Preceeding them most recently was current volunteer assistant coach Molly Doyle, who scored a goal in the game in 2013, and Katie Briglia in 2012. All-American Bridget Settles played in 2011 and also scored in the game, while Sarah Dalrymple was a standout in goal in 2010. Other Owls to be selected in the past eight years include Charise Young, Mary Catherine Kinneman, Ashley Bird and All-American Alli Lokey.
As a five-year veteran for the Owls and a team co-captain this season, Millen has had a truly outstanding career as Temple's starting goalkeeper for the past four seasons. She was an All-BIG EAST Second Team honoree last year, and was named to this season's Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. With 396 career saves, Millen ranks seventh all-time in program history. This season she has an 80 percent saves percentage to lead the BIG EAST and rank third among all goalkeepers in NCAA Division I.Â
An All-America Second Team selection last year, Youtz has gone on to have an even more impressive final season with the Owls. She leads all players in the nation with 25 goals so far this year, and has recorded eight career hat tricks including four this season. Her 67 career goals rank fourth all-time at Temple, and she also ranks fourth all-time with 160 career points and ranks eighth all-time with 26 career assists. She was Preseason All-BIG EAST selection and has been named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week three times, including this week after scoring or assisting on all eight of Temple's goals in two 4-0 shutout wins last week.Â
Temple will play its final regular season game at home on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 1:00 p.m. against #4 UConn. Millen and Youtz, along with fellow standout senior Nicole Kroener, will be honored prior to the game for Senior Day.
