PHILADELPHIA – Guard Donnaizha Fountain (Roxbury, Mass.) has signed an athletic scholarship to play at Temple University, head coach Tonya Cardoza announced on Monday.

The 6-0 transfer from Georgia Tech, who has to sit out the 2014-15 season, joins the recruiting class of Tanaya Atkinson (New Haven, Conn.), Khadijah Berger (Hampton, Va.), Wendion Bibbins (Harvey, La.), and Alliya Butts (Edgewater Park, N.J.) as the newest Owls.

"I am really excited to welcome Donnaizha to our family.  She hails from my hometown of Roxbury, Mass.," Cardoza said. "She will bring passion, toughness, athleticism, and size at the guard position.  I expect her to make an immediate impact on our team even while she is sitting out her first year."

Fountain recently completed her freshman season with the Yellow Jackets. She saw action in 21 games with two starts and averaged 3.3 points and 1.8 rebounds per game.  Fountain recorded season-highs in points (11) and rebounds (6) against Portland State (12/17/13). She also had a season-high five steals against Alabama State (12/29/13).

The top-ranked player in the state of Massachusetts, Fountain was named to the ESPN Boston Super Team.  She was selected to American Family Insurance All-Massachusetts.  As a senior, Fountain played in 14 games at Cambridge Rindge & Latin High School where she averaged 19.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 3.6 steals and 2.2 blocks in her final prep campaign.

During three years at Rindge & Latin for head coach Dana Ellcock, she played in 52 games. Fountain scored over 850 points and grabbed over 500 rebounds in those three years. She averaged 16.4 points, 9.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 3.3 steals and 1.8 blocks. Fountain tied the school record for steals in a game with 10 against Westford Academy (2/17/11) and owns two of the top four rebounding games in school history with 17 at Somerville (2/11/11), and 22 at Andover just 10 days later.
