Season Opener Less Than a Week Away
8.22.14 | Football
With the season opener approaching in just six days (Thursday, August 28 at 9:15pm ET), the Temple Owls took the field today for Vanderbilt Game Week. Following practice head coach Matt Rhule addressed the media. Here are selected quotes from that session. The full video is available here.
On preparing for Vanderbilt: "Today was a great first day; an introduction to Vanderbilt. It's great to get into game week. We know they are a great team."
On the depth at running back: "[Sophomore] Jahad Thomas has been making great strides. We are excited about Jahad. I think he'll have a role for us. That was a good move [converting him from defensive back]…I'm excited to see [junior] Jamie Gilmore. He's healthy and he had a good game against Memphis so let's see if he can pick up where he left off."
On freshman CB Sean Chandler earning a single digit jersey (awarded to the toughest players on the team): "He was voted by his peers. As a coach, I wouldn't have voted for a true freshman, I wouldn't pick them. But I agree with their decision. On the field he's still a freshman but this is just about toughness and work ethic. He comes to work every day. Toughness isn't just about physical toughness. It's competitive toughness and most importantly, it's mental toughness; when you do what you are supposed to do when you are tired. When you study, pay attention, when you prepare…Sean Chandler is all of those things. There's no guy on our team that listens to the coaches more than him. "
