PHILADELPHIA – Temple men's soccer heads to La Salle on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. for a Philadelphia Soccer Six matchup.  The Owls look to repeat as the Philadelphia Soccer Six Champions after securing the title last year.

HEADLINES
  • Temple is 1-3 to open the 2014 season.  The Owls have dropped their past two games on the road to No. 16 Penn State 1-0 and Duke 3-1.
  • Forward Olli Tynkkynen earned the first American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week of the season after he scored his first two collegiate goals in the team's 3-0 win against Sacramento State.
  • Redshirt-senior defender Jonah Williams garnered the American Athletic Conference Defender of the Week after helping the defense allow only one goal in two games two weekends ago, not allowing a single shot on goal for Sacramento State, and assisting on a goal.
  • Junior midfielder/forward Jared Martinelli, sophomore defender Robert Sagel and senior goalkeeper Dan Scheck were selected to the Preseason All-American Athletic Conference Team.  Scheck was voted by the coaches as the Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year.
  • Three freshmen have started all four games for Temple: Tynkkynen, midfielder Felipe Liborio and midfielder Brendon Creed.
  • Temple was predicted to finish fifth in the conference by the preseason coaches' poll.
  • Scheck is currently the career leader in goals allowed average (0.68) and ranks tied for fourth in career wins (15).
  • La Salle comes into the game with a 0-3-0 record.  The Explorers opened their season with a 1-0 loss at Siena and lost both games in the Windjammer Classic to Vermont 2-1 and UMass Lowell 2-0.
  • La Salle was picked to finish seventh in the A-10.  The Explorers have made their conference tournament four straight years.
  • Temple leads the all-time series 47-17-2.  The Owls won the last game 3-0 between the two former conference foes on Oct. 28, 2012.
  • This marks the first Philadelphia Soccer Six game of the 2014 season for both teams.
  • The Owls are currently in a four game road trip and won't return home until Sept. 21 for a Philadelphia Soccer Six match against Penn.  The road trip began at No. 16 Penn State last Friday, and Temple will head to Fordham (9/17) next Tuesday.
  • Temple is coming off 10-4-4, 3-1-4 season where they finished fourth in the conference and were named the Philadelphia Soccer Six Champions.
  • Sagel and Martinelli were selected to the 2013 all-conference second teams.  Sagel was put on the all-freshmen team.
