Belal Mohamed Named American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Following Temple men's soccer's 4-0 victory over Memphis, the American Athletic Conference has announced that freshman Belal Mohamed has been named the Rookie of the Week. Mohamed has also been named the Philadelphia Soccer Six Co-Rookie of the Week.

In the Owls' road game against UCF, Mohamed logged the Owls' lone goal that kept the team leading the Knights through the first half. On Saturday's home match against Memphis, Mohamed logged an assist on Joonas Jokinen's game-winning goal. Teaming up with Matt Mahoney, Mohamed was able to drive the ball up the field and slide a pass to Mahoney who crossed the ball to find Jokinen to sink the Owls' first goal on their way to a four-goal shutout.

Mohamed now boasts two goals and three assists this season, ranking third on the team in overall points. He has appeared in all 13 matches in his rookie season, making eight starts.

Also earning conference honors are Jokinen, Mahoney, and redshirt-sophomore Alex Cagle. All three Owls were named to the weekly honor roll following their performances last week.

Jokinen logged an assist in the match against UCF and his first goal of the season against Memphis. Mahoney logged his second assist of the season to Jokinen's goal and was named Philadelphia Soccer Six Defender of the Week.

Cagle, who has earned weekly conference honors in six out of the seven weeks this season, logged eight saves in the Owls' past two matches. He now boasts a goals against average of 0.81 and 40 total saves that ranks second in the conference.
