Men's Soccer Hosts Columbia in Non-Conference Matchup

PHILADELPHIA – Taking a break from conference action, Temple men's soccer is set to host the Columbia Lions on Tuesday afternoon at the Ambler Sports Complex. The 3:30 p.m. match will be the first meeting between the two teams.
Both teams are coming off conference victories on Saturday, Oct. 10, with the Owls topping Memphis 4-0 and the Lions defeating Penn 2-1. Temple saw four goals from four different players and in turn, saw four players recognized by the American Athletic Conference and the Philadelphia Soccer Six.
Joonas Jokinen, Justin Stoddart, Jorge Gomez Sanchez, and Jared Martinelli each logged a goal, with goalkeeper Alex Cagle logging two saves to earn the team's fifth shutout of the season.
Belal Mohamed, who logged in a goal and an assist in the past two matches, was named the conference's Rookie of the Week, as well as the Soccer Six Co-Rookie of the Week.
Matt Mahoney was named the Soccer 6 Defender of the Week after recording his second assist of the season in the Owls' match against Memphis. He was also named to the conference's weekly honor roll. Cagle and Jokinen were also named to the honor roll.
Gomez Sanchez still leads the team with 12 goals and four assists for a total of 28 points in 12 matches. In the conference, Gomez Sanchez leads in all individual categories aside from assists and assists per game. With only 12 games under his belt, Gomez Sanchez has already placed himself in the Temple records, sitting in a tie for seventh in total goals in a season and tied for eighth in total points in a season.
Also sitting in the Temple program records is Martinelli who already holds the second most career assists in Temple history with 21 total. The top spot is held by NSCAA All-American J.T. Noone, who posted 26 assists in his career.
The Lions are coming to Temple with a 6-2-1 overall record and a 1-1 record in the Ivy League. Arthur Bosua leads the team with two goals and one assist through nine matches.
