Women's Tennis Defeats Drexel, 6-1 In Scrimmage

PHILADELPHIA – In their last team competition of the fall season, the Temple women's tennis team defeated Drexel, 6-1 in a scrimmage on Sunday.
"The girls played really well and were really strong in singles and doubles," said head coach Steve Mauro. "Anais Nussaume played extremely well and Yana Khon, who beat a girl she lost to at the Cissie Leary Invitational last week."
In doubles, Nussaume and sophomore Alina Adurakhimova defeated Honami Yazawa and Erin Bowsher at the first flight, 8-3. Juniors Mariana Bedon and Dina Karina clinched the point for the Owls, taking down Clary Rodriguez Cruz and Anisiya Simpson, 8-6 at the second flight.
In singles, it was another strong performance for the Owls, as Abdurakhimova defeated Yazawa, 2-6, 6-3, 10-6 at the first flight. Khon picked up a win at the second flight as she defeated Rodriguez Cruz, 6-2, 7-5 and Nussaume took down Lea Winkler at the third flight, 5-7, 6-2, 10-7.
Karina and Bedon also picked up wins in the fifth and sixth flights, respectively. Drexel's only point came from Simpson's 6-4, 7-6, 7-4 win over Minami Okajima at the fourth flight.
The ladies will travel to Lynchburg, Va. on October 15-19 for the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships for their final competition of the fall.
