Matthews Tied for Second after First Day at 31st Annual Georgetown Intercollegiate

BEALLSVILLE, Md. – Senior All-American Brandon Matthews shot an even-par 71 on the first day of competition at the 31st Annual Georgetown Intercollegiate Monday afternoon. As a team, the Owls are in seventh place among the 12 teams at the Invitational held at The Members Club at Four Streams.
Matthews, who trails Rhode Island's Billy Walthouse by four strokes, was followed by redshirt freshman John Barone, who carded a four-over 75 to tie for 17th among the 68-player field. Freshmen Sam Soeth (79, t43rd) and Trey Wren (80, t49th) were next for the Owls with freshman Gary McCabe (82, t57th) rounding out the TU quintet.
DePaul led the field with an 11-over 295. Rhode Island (296) was one-shot back in second place and was followed by Illinois State (298), William and Mary (299), Georgetown (301), Princeton (304), Temple (305), Richmond (308), Navy (309), Weber State (310), Saint Joseph's (311) and Brown (318).
The tournament concludes with one round on Tuesday.
