Field Hockey Will Celebrate Senior Day on Friday Against Georgetown

PHILADELPHIA - Ten Temple field hockey seniors will be honored on Friday when the Owls host Georgetown in their final home game of the season at Geasey Field. The BIG EAST match-up is set for 3 p.m., with the Senior Day ceremony to be held 15 minutes prior. The game will be webcast live and for free through OwlsTV.
Temple students can pick up a free ticket to the Temple-Notre Dame football game at Friday's field hockey game. Students must have their TUID with them to get a ticket. One ticket per Temple student will be given out. The tickets are all available on a first come, first serve basis, based on availability.
Temple is coming off a big upset win at #12 Old Dominion earlier this week, snapping a losing streak with a 1-0 road win against the nationally-ranked Monarchs. It was the first conference win for Temple, and the Owls need at least one win in their final two conference games against Georgetown and Villanova to earn a spot in the four-team BIG EAST Tournament.Â
The Old Dominion game marked the eighth ranked opponent Temple had faced this season. Seven of the Owls' losses have been by a single goal, including two against ranked teams (#19 James Madison and #12 Liberty in OT).Â
Senior Alyssa Delp leads Temple with nine goals this season, which ranks fourth among all players in the conference. With 35 goals scored (2.19 goals per game), Temple ranks third among the teams in the BIG EAST. The Owls rank second in the league in goals scored off corners with 11 (0.69 per game). Senior goalkeeper Haley Mitchell, who made 10 saves in the win at ODU, ranks second in the BIG EAST in saves (101) and saves per game (6.31).
Georgetown comes into Friday's game with an overall record of 8-7 and a 1-2 mark in the conference. The Hoyas have won three straight, including a pair of 2-1 overtime decisions against Longwood and Villanova. Their other BIG EAST games have been a 4-1 loss at Providence and a 6-0 loss at #15 Old Dominion.Â
Temple has won six straight vs. Georgetown, including last season's meeting by a score 4-0 on the road. The Owls won the last home game in 2013, 5-1.
Senior Day Honorees
#5 Sarah Deck
Sarah has started in 77 games in her Temple career, scoring 10 goals and adding nine assists. On Oct. 20, Sarah scored the game-winner for the Owls in 1-0 win at 12th-ranked Old Dominion. She has earned the Team's Hustle Award in back to back years, evidence of her tremendous work ethic. Sarah is a kinesiology major and an honors student who has twice been named to the President's Honor Roll.
#7 Alyssa Delp
An All-Region and All-BIG EAST Second Team selection last year, Alyssa was a unanimous selection to the Preseason All BIG EAST Team this season and has tallied 26 goals and 10 assists in her career. She is a speech, language and hearing science major and has twice been named to the President's Honor Roll for having a GPA of 3.5 or above.Â
#2 Amanda Fuertsch
Amanda has played in 68 games in her Temple career, and has truly excelled as a student-athlete. Amanda was named to Temple's Trustee Ten in 2015 for having one of the 10 highest GPA's among all student-athletes at the university, and is going to be completing her degree in early childhood education.Â
#12 Alyssa Hughes
Alyssa has been a role model teammate in her four years at Temple, doing whatever is asked of her to help the program. Off the field, Alyssa is a star student-athlete who excels as a kinesiology major and has twice been named to Temple's President's Honor Roll for having a GPA above 3.5.Â
#10 Kayla Laughman
Kayla has played in 62 games in a Temple uniform and has proven her versatility on the field in whatever position she has been asked to play. Kayla is a business major and has been named to Temple's Director's Honor Roll every year for having a GPA of 3.0 or above.Â
#4 Tricia Light
Tricia has seen action in 77 games as an Owl, making 35 starts for the program. Her career totals include 12 goals and 5 assists for 17 total points. Tricia is majoring in finance and has excelled in the classroom, twice being named to the President's Honor Roll and earning Temple Trustee Ten honors as a sophomore.Â
#3 Haley Mitchell
Haley has started in goal every game of her senior season, and has made 10 or more saves four times, including a huge effort with 10 saves in the Owls' 1-0 win at 12th-ranked Old Dominion. After the opening week of the 2015 season, Haley was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week. She is a media studies and production major and has been named to the Director's Honor Roll in each year of her career.Â
#22 Taylor Shronk
Taylor has started in an impressive 76 games at Temple, and has been a standout defender her entire career. She was named to the Atlantic 10 Rookie Team as a freshman, and was a BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honoree last year after making two defensive saves in a win for the Owls. Taylor is majoring in secondary education/math education and has been named to the Director's Honor Roll every year.Â
#18 Rachel Steinman
Rachel has been a starting back since her freshman year, and will be making her 75th start as an Owl on Friday. Her career totals include two goals and 10 assists for 14 total points. Rachel is a kinesiology major and a Director's Honor Roll student for having a GPA above a 3.0.Â
#19 Erin VanHorn
Erin has played in 51 games at Temple, scoring 8 goals and recording 2 assists for the Owls. She has twice scored a pair of goals in a game, including two of Temple's four goals in a win against Lafayette last season. Erin is a kinesiology major and a Director's Honor Roll student for having a GPA of above 3.0.Â
